Adaptive outdoor adventures is a collaboration between the Therapeutic and Outdoor Recreation programs at Asheville Parks and Recreation. Programs are accessible to anyone who would like to participate: activity specific essential eligibility criteria may be provided. Please call 828-232-4529 for more information. Preregistration is required for all programs.
Enjoy a fun evening reaching new heights on the indoor climbing wall. This program is geared toward persons with different abilities; adaptive climbing equipment available. Please contact the Therapeutic Recreation Program at (828) 232-4529 for additional information
Essential Eligibility Criteria for all programs:
Each participant must:
- Have the ability to follow program rules, communicate with others in a respectful manner, respect personal space of others
- Maintain personal care needs independently or with the assistance of a companion, excluding the program instructors (including administering medication, toileting, and feeding)
- Be able to understand basic communication
- Demonstrate basic social skills (interact with peers)
- Be able to work in a group setting of 12 to 15 people
- Not have a history of violence against themselves or others
The LRT/CTRS is unable to provide one-on-one supervision. Participants that do not fit meet essential eligibility criteria (EEC) may be able to participant in a program if they have their own CAP or one-on-one worker.
(CAP or One-on-One Workers are welcome at these programs at no additional charge). Please call 828-232-4529 about specific questions you may have.
