Spring Fishing. Get ready for some catch & release at Charles D.Owen Park in Swannanoa. Enjoy a couple of relaxing hours trying to catch Bass, Bream and Catfish. Participants must be able to bait, cast and reel a fishing pole independently. Poles and bait will be provided. Catching a fish is not guaranteed. This trip will be rain or shine, unless lightning is present. 8:30am-12pm, Thursday, April 3. $5/person.

How to cast a fly with a fly rod is the most important step in learning how to Fly Fish. It's an art and a science and makes this type of fishing so enjoyable once you know how. Come learn from a certified instructor and get your skills honed for the fishing season. All gear will be provided. *This class takes place inside and out so come prepared for the weather.

There's no time to get bored in this challenging yet rewarding type of fishing. In this class you will get all of the information you need to start Fly Fishing. Participants will learn: different methods and techniques, the basic gear needed to get started, how to cast with a fly rod, good places to go in the area, and the rules and regulations for NC. All gear will be provided.

To get started Fly Fishing on your own, you need to know how to get your rod ready to catch fish. It's knot the most glamorous part of Fly Fishing but it's the most important skill needed to go out and catch trout on your own. The focus will be on knots and setting up (Rigging) your rod in a way that sets you up for success. All gear will be provided.

After taking our Fly Fishing 101 class, it's time to put your skills to the test at the river. For this outing, we will be heading to Dupont State forest to fish the Little River; a great place to learn and grow your confidence in the sport. All fly fishing and wading gear will be provided but participants must have a fishing license to participate.

Transportation will be provided.

*To maximize time on the water, only participants who have taken our Fly Fishing 101 class can participate*

* Participants must be comfortable in moving water and have the ability to walk on uneven and slippery terrain*

Thanks to NCWRC for providing a fishing license waiver for participants over age 16 to learn how to fish.
