The Community Engagement Markets are open to the community and located throughout Buncombe County. These markets offer a way to build relationships and connections through the provision of food provided by MANNA at no cost to the public, along with resource connections to services offered by the County and community partners. Markets are supported by a network of volunteers, who support their neighbors by sharing their time to help increase access to healthy food and connections to County and community resources.

Well trained guides will accompany you through the beautiful caverns on an easy walking tour. The tour typically lasts approximately 45-60 minutes, and is approximately a half mile in length. The pathways are a combination of concrete and gravel, and there are 27 stair-steps to reach the lower regions, and 26 on the way back up. The temperature underground in the summer months is 60-64 degrees Fahrenheit.

Are you new to indoor rock climbing or someone who wants a refresher on how to belay? This hour long clinic will go over the basics of knot tying, safety checks, and belaying using the PBUS technique. We encourage you to bring someone to climb with, but it is not a requirement. If you bring your child as a climbing partner to the belay clinic, they must be above the age of 6.

Time for you to see our mountain streams from a new perspective. River Snorkeling is a fast growing hobby that allows you to see a whole world just under the surface of the water. *All participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. No charge for adults attending who do no wish to get in the water/snorkel but everyone must register in advance to account for limited seating. For those who would like a ride in the van, participants will meet at 70 Gashes Creek Rd, Asheville, NC 28805.

*Each participant will be given a wetsuit, wetsuit socks, snorkels & masks. Life Jackets can be provided by request. Participants should provide shoes that can get wet and securely attach to your feet.

*Van transportation is provided.

Come on out to the Montford Climbing Wall for a rock climbing adventure. Harness and helmets available for use. A limited number of staff will be on hand to belay climbers. Participants must attend and pass an AVL Rec climbing course or belay clinic to belay. Any participants who attend a belay clinic the day of open climb receives free entry to open climb on the day of the clinic.

Senior Treks is a low-impact hiking club, offering leisurely-paced hikes for adults 50+. Bring lunch, water, good walking shoes and dress for the weather. Layers are recommended as weather can be unpredictable and change with elevation in WNC. Must be in good physical condition to participate; ability to walk 3+ miles on uneven terrain. Transportation is provided. Advance registration is required.

Meets at the Outdoor Recreation Facility at 9:30 am. Trips depart at 9:45am. Van Fee: $5/trip. Online registration closes three days prior to the hike date. To provide the best experience, this class may be canceled if it does not meet minimum registration numbers. Please call 828-767-1576 to inquire about late registration within 72 hours of a hike.

Come meet new people and explore Asheville’s Greenways with the Greenway Walking Club. We welcome people of all ages, sizes, and cultural backgrounds. The goal of this club is to connect people while walking your way to better health. Mileage won't be the priority, rather seeing how far we can walk, out and back as a group, in the allotted time. All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
